I have seen several movies and read some good books lately thought I would post some reviews:
Movies:
Marley and Me: was one of my favorite books and the movie did the book justice. If you've ever loved a dog or wondered how people could love dogs this movie is for you. Its one you'll be laughing and crying. I don't think I've cried this much at a movie before. I rate it a 9 out of 10.
7 pounds: This movie was so mysterious I had to see it. They can't tell you what its about before you go or it ruins how the movie unfolds. I figured it in the first 15/20 minutes but it still made for a good movie. I rate it a 6.5
Benjamin Button: I knew going in it would be epic and long. It had some good themes for love and for life but alot of the 3 hours I could of done without. It had a lot of hype and didn't quite live up to. I rate it a 6
Books:
Twilight: Well I didn't think at first I would red these, since its all the rage right now but once I started these books I couldn't stop. I read all 4 in less than a month. They for the female reader and I found them highly entertaining. I give them a 9.
ComeBack: This is a memoir a mother and daughter write together. One of the most powerful books I've read. The daughter in adolescence goes into drugs and down the deep end and its about their journey together of healing and redemption. There is some heavy natured material in the daughter's early childhood experiences and her decent in adolescence. As a therapist I found it so thought provoking and moving, there are a lot of her experiences and process in therapy in the book. As a person it was even more powerful, we all have our stuff, our dysfunctions, we work really hard to hide them and when we finally are honest with ourselves, each other and open ourselves to change, so much awaking and living can really start. This one is a 10.
19 Minutes: Also a heavy one. Its a fictional story but the themes it brings up are very real. It is about bullying, a school shooting and so much more. Its great reminding us how complex most human stories are, we try to simplify blame and responsibility, but the whole picture is sometimes painfully revealing. Its an 8.
